Sun, sea and sierra infuse this new collection for life within or alfresco, responsibly crafted in Catalonia. Thrill and chill with the Lou trio.
A modernist classic by Peter Sans, the award-winning design is held together with its most identifiable detail: a buckled leather belt spanning the length of the basket-weave and steel chair. Made in Spain and now in the Calma showcase at the A+R showroom. Limited stock stateside, too.
Xanca lights up the night, indoors or outside with a warming glow via rechargeable LED. A white frosted polyethylene globe suspends from Iroko legs. Shorter Xica and Llum iterations are also part of the lighting range. Designed for Calma by Barcelona-based studio CrousCalogero and crafted in Spain.
Line up those stolen moments in the open air with this pairing from Calma. The graphic lines of its steel structure provide a lightness of being to the Pepa dining and lounge chairs and corresponding Circus side tables (available in a trio of heights).
Blue, Yellow, Green and Coffee+Garnet are the traditional La Bisbal colors of Catalonia, a leading Spanish pottery center. And so, too, these stool-cum-side tables dip glazed in a nod to the everyday utility (for outdoor and indoors) and fine craftsmanship of the work made here and made for Calma. Each comes with a color-coordinating Sunbrella seat pad.
Marea is Spanish for “tide," and this swing version of its sibling deep lounger lends a pacific back-and-forth movement like the drift of the ocean. Made completely in Spain or natural Iroko wood and sun-resistant Batyline Eden technical fabric.
Cut the Cord
The shift to life on the go and taking care of business from anywhere has been nothing short of seismic. Lighting designers, influenced by our ever-evolving collective need for versatility, seemed to have taken note, introducing some of the most attractive lamps on the market—cord-free, rechargeable and ready to go from poolside to bedside, desk to dining table, camping to carousing....
Design for a Better Future
The best in design improves the quality of life. And this adage isn't limited to our individual whims. Quality of life is increasingly a matter for the global community, one that means products that consume less energy and minimize waste in manufacturing and post-production. Quality is also matter of lasting durability. In a nod to Earth Day, an LED spotlight on just a few of the dozens of products at A+R produced with a healthy world in mind...
Yes, Women Design
Women might account for nearly half the global population, but design, from architecture to products, remains a man’s world. If the recent rise in women designers and entrepreneurs in the marketplace and at A+R is a sign of the times, perhaps marking women’s history in this realm will sooner than later become a year-round given. In the meantime, a spotlight on a handful of creators—who happen to be women—we can’t get enough of...
